House Tour: Kitchen

I realized the other day that I never did a final wrap-up for all those kitchen details that still needed to get taken care of.  The last time I posted, the faucet was broken, the dishwasher was broken, the floor was not taking the paint right, I hadn’t finished painting the walls and door, the cabinets under the sink had the wrong doors, etc.  Well, 4.5 months later and all that is taken care of and even seems like a distant memory, so I thought I would post some final after pics and make it official.

    • Thanks Camille. I need to start running my photos by you to see which ones I should feature–I can never tell which is the “money shot.” And wow, magazine coverage would be amazing! That is definitely a dream/really lofty goal…

  2. I love those amazing windows, the floor, backsplash, hardware, counters, ummmmm……what don’t I love? Oh I know – that it’s not mine :) But I will live vicariously through you and your gorgeous kitchen. The details are just so pretty.

  3. I can’t stop looking at your kitchen – it’s beautiful. I love that one vignette of the counter with the basket, the crock, and the iron placket on the wall. My Mom has a basket just like that and I love it. You’ve really done such a nice job.

      I think you could definitely paint the trim a dark color and leave the casings white or some other lighter color–even without the muntins. That would look lovely! Can’t wait to see it!

    • So far I love the marble. I resealed it a couple of months ago but I may not again. I kind of like how it’s getting discolored in places. The discoloration is not that noticeable and honestly we are not very good about wiping up spills. I try not to let citrus or red wine sit for more than a few hours but there have definitely been times where it sat overnight and wiped up fine in the morning. The best thing to do is get a marble tile and use it as a testing ground. Put everything on it and let it sit and see how it looks after a few weeks and if you like it.

      Also, I would caution against an ogee or bullnose edge unless you are going for a very formal look. The edges do get chipped occasionally and I think a square edge ages better with this. I think another reason marble works in our kitchen is that we have kind of a kitchen that doesn’t look new in the first place (even though it is!) so an aged looking counter works. I have seen kitchens recently redone with marble and they are clean and sparkling but the counter doesn’t work because if you are hard on it, it’s going to patina, etc.

      Does that make sense? I think Lauren Liess had a post recently about choosing marble for her new kitchen and I remember agreeing with what she said. I’ll see if I can find it…

  5. Hi Lane! I have just placed unlacqiered brass faucets in a few places in our home. What finish did you use on the drain in your kitchen? We can’t seem to find unlacquered brass drains. I’d hate to use polished brass, knowing the faucet will tarnish, but I’m not a huge fan of the manufactured “antique brass” finish. Any ideas?

    • Hi Meghan. We used polished lacquered brass and it has aged even with the lacquer on it. It basically matches the faucet now which I guess is because of the constant water etc. You can also get the lacquered brass ones and have it stripped.

  6. alright, i have lost track of the time tonight wandering around your blog for the first time. i am enthralled and in love with your interiors and especially this fantastic eclectic kitchen. i am so happy to find the information about this faucet. i would love to replicate this in my bathroom, now just to find a tub filler to match and figure out how to strip them (oven cleaner?) i do not have a sink factory in my area lol.
