Berkeley SPANISH COTTAGE

In the vibrant neighborhood of West Berkeley, a traditional Spanish Mediterranean cottage from the 1920s underwent a unique transformation, merging the warmth and character of its original architecture with the sleek, modern lines of Italian design. This project presented an intriguing challenge: to harmonize the distinct, handcrafted essence and charm of the Spanish cottage with the contemporary elegance sought by our clients. Our solution was a thoughtful integration of Italian modern style, utilizing clean lines and warm, patinated finishes to create a seamless transition between old and new.
The cottage's renovation emphasized natural materials like wools, linens, and velvets, avoiding any sense of coldness despite the modernity of the forms. Bronze metals with sculptural, geometric shapes added a high impact yet inviting touch to the spaces. Designed for a young family with two children, the home combines practicality with timeless beauty. The use of performance fabrics and natural materials ensures durability and ease of maintenance, catering to a lively household.
A standout feature of the renovation is the children's bedroom, celebrated for its imaginative design and popularity on social media. The room boasts custom bunk beds and a dedicated reading nook, offering privacy and inspiration through a wallpaper mural depicting scenes from beloved children's books. This space not only serves as a comfortable shared bedroom but also as a creative sanctuary for the children.
This Berkeley Spanish Cottage represents a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, achieving a cozy, family-friendly environment without sacrificing style. Through careful material selection and innovative design, we've crafted a home that respects its historical roots while embracing contemporary living, making it a cherished getaway for the family.
