In collaboration with architect Charles Debbas, and Jetton Construction, this project represents the transformation of a classic craftsman home into a contemporary modern masterpiece, dubbed a "modern jewel box." While preserving the craftsman exterior, the interior was reimagined to exude warmth and modernity, offering a delightful contrast to its traditional facade. This renovation was deeply personal, incorporating earthy colors and authentic materials that reflect the homeowners' unique backgrounds—one from a Midwestern farm and the other from Eastern Europe—creating a space that honors their heritage.

A significant feature is the limestone fireplace, sourced from a Midwestern quarry connected to the family, symbolizing the integration of personal history into the home's design. Designed for a young family with two children, the renovation prioritized creating a durable, easy-maintenance, yet elegant environment suitable for both family life and showcasing an art collection, curated in collaboration with a local curator.

The interior boasts customized elements throughout, from reclaimed American white oak dining tables to walnut cabinetry and millwork, ensuring that every detail was crafted with the family's needs and tastes in mind. Highlighting the home's artisanal spirit, a Lindsay Adelman branching chandelier adorns the dining room, enhancing the space with its intricate design. Tania Johnson was responsible for designing the bespoke rugs that are showcased throughout the home.

Automated window treatments and a fully motorized home system reflect the project's modern advancements, marrying convenience with luxury. The addition of a third-floor guest space, achieved by capturing the attic, showcases the architect's ingenuity in maximizing the home's footprint.

Completed with the expertise of Jetton Construction and featured in an AIA East Bay home tour, this home stands as a testament to thoughtful, personalized renovation, transforming a traditional craftsman into a haven of contemporary luxury and familial warmth.
